Peoria Outdoor Adventure
Come see all that the Peoria area has to offer
Come see all that the Peoria area has to offer
The Peoria area has an abundance of exciting outdoor opportunities and fabulous local dining spots that are often overlooked by visitors-as well as myself sometimes. My Peoria is loaded with hundreds of miles of trails, thousands of acres of creeks, rivers and parks, and an untapped potential.
I wanted to create a site that combined the very best of the LOCAL outdoor clubs, groups, and restaurants that make the central Illinois area a special place, and in the process, help promote the groups and individuals that make this area a true hidden midwestern gem.
Many of the pages linked here simply piggy back on the hard work of others who have put together much of the information on their own club sites. My only objective with this project was to link a few together for myself and other outdoor enthusiasts, and in the process-promote these groups and people.
For the 3rd year in a row my amazing wife is allowing me to indulge in a weekend of all things kayak and biking related. March 8,9 and 10th in Madison Wisconsin is the annual Canoecopia paddle sport (canoe, kayak, SUP) expo as well as the massive Bike-o-Rama expo being held right next door. It's an amazing opportunity to test paddle/ride the latest and greatest boats and bikes available. Of course-being a buy local/stay local advocate-I'd never make a purchase up there-as difficult as it would be to pass on that-but it's great to test drive some things and then order them up from a local shop back in Peoria.
They also have 3 days of seminars going on where you can sit in and learn about anything and everything paddle related. Plus-Madison is just a fun outdoorsy town to spend the weekend at.
SO...in a month I'll probably be posting some photos and an update from Madison telling you about everything coming out this year! If you can make the short trip-it's definitely worth it. A member of the Mackinaw Canoe Club, Lenore Sobota, is one of the guest lectures as well.
Here's a link to the show guide and presentations being given.
